A door jam exists to protect your door and provide it with support. This is important because when you hang a door you rely on the framing to hold it in place. When you have a door jam in place you’ll also be certain that your door is hanging level to the floor.
There are two types of door jam protection available for use today – ones that are made out of heavy-duty plastic and ones that are made out of hard cardboard.
Both of these types of door jams work the same. They’re tubular-shaped guards that extend about 1 1/8″ from your door’s frame. This helps to create a barrier there. They’re usually 4-9/16 inches thick. You’ll find that they’re relatively easy to install in a standard two-by-four wall that’s constructed by studs that are 1½ inches by 3½ inches.
