What Is Gita All About

The Bhagavad Gita is a portion of India’s longest war epic called Mahabharata. It is composed of 700 lines of poetry detailing the conversation between Lord Krishna and Arjuna, the general of one of the conflicting families.

What is Gita? Also known as The Song of the Lord, the Gita seeks to answer how one can live spiritually without withdrawing from society. It also answers how one can do his social obligations without sacrificing family.

The Story

In the book, Arjuna is emotionally worried because he is entering into a battle that can potentially destroy his own family. Krishna sees that Arjuna is troubled by this and essentially persuades him to continue with the war without worry.

Bottom Line

The Gita talks about how you can enter into conflict to fulfill social obligations without worrying about bad karma. Lord Krishna talks about Yoga as a means to avoid negative karma.
