Not only these covers keep the instrument and tools safe from dirt and other contamination, but they also serve some other handy purposes. For instance, it is typical to use the inside surface of the sterilization wrap material after unpacking in the operating room, as a sterilized cover on which to momentarily place instruments or devices.

These wraps are available in all sizes, and most of the productions come from businesses that deal with the hospital supplies. For most hospitals, the sterilization wrap is a standard item for safekeeping of all surgical instruments and other hospital items such as injections.

Sometimes these covers also come into use when at hospitals, there is a need to dispose of contaminated instruments. However, such sterilization wraps have clear labels on them, so no one gets exposed to the contamination instruments.
