Maasai ecotourism seeks to preserve the landscapes and unique biodiversity of east Africa by undertaking conservation efforts with Maasai peoples that directly benefit their communities. The best way to protect areas of outstanding ecological value is to work with the local inhabitants and the land they have owned for generations. The Maasai communities own all of the land between the National Parks that contain critical wildlife migration corridors and important habitat reserves.
This incredible wilderness area and the wildlife that inhabits it is a unique drawcard for tourists; by undertaking sensitive tourist development and safari programs this area can be protected from threats to its long-term survival by using the money generated from tourists to support local Maasai community development. The Maasai also benefit by being employed in these operations which enable them to benefit from their natural resources while also generating income that is used to protect them for future generations.
