The Basics of Human Capital Management

Human capital management HCM is a term that refers to the practice of managing workers in an organization. It involves managing recruitment and selection, training and development, performance appraisal, and compensation and benefits of employees. HCM also includes other activities such as employee engagement, health and safety programs, and workplace policies.

Recruitment & Selection

The recruitment process involves finding suitable candidates for vacant positions in an organization. This can include advertising job openings on websites or in newspapers, or using recruitment agencies or headhunters to find potential candidates. The selection process is then used to choose the best candidate for the position based on their qualifications, experience and skills required for the job.

Training & Development

Once a candidate is successfully recruited into an organization it is important to provide them with training so they can carry out their role effectively. Training helps employees understand their responsibilities and develop new skills that are needed for their job role. Development initiatives are also used to help employees become more effective leaders within the company by providing them with additional development opportunities such as seminars or workshops which focus on areas such as leadership skills or teamwork-building exercises.
