Hypnotherapy has been shown to help people make behavioral changes in order to deal with issues in their lives. When they are placed in a hypnotic state a person is fully relaxed and becomes more open to suggestion. Research has shown that hypnotherapy for anxiety can help relieve stress and fear.
A person under hypnosis, for example, can be directed to use their coping mechanisms and overcome limiting behaviors through suggestion by the therapist. They can be asked to bring to mind the feelings they have when suffering an episode of anxiety and through the therapist’s encouragement deal with the symptoms and fears they feel by the therapist’s suggestions such as ‘You are in control of your anxiety‘, ‘Taking deep breaths and overcoming the physical effects will make you feel better, ‘You are safe, there is nothing to fear’, and so on.
