What Is Hormone Optimization?

In both men and women hormones act as a communication link between cells and regulate a wide variety of the body’s systems. As people age, however, hormone levels can become depleted or imbalanced and hormone optimization is used to address this through hormone replacement therapy.

Hormones are produced by glands in the endocrine system and control functions in the body such as metabolism, growth and reproduction. They share information with different organs in the body to control things like when to eat or sleep and how energy is expended. The purpose of optimizing hormones is to determine when hormone levels are below their optimal levels and, when they are, to alleviate this by creating a plan to improve hormone levels and their function. When the body is not producing the hormones required, hormone replacement therapy is used to bring them into balance. This treatment can be done through the use of supplements for under-produced hormones or by replacing them altogether.
