A fire door is part of a passive fire protection system. It’s essentially a door that’s received a fire-resistance rating. This means that it has the ability to help reduce the spread of fire and smoke between separate compartments of a structure. This is important because then you can safely escape from a building, ship, or other structure when it’s on fire.
Every 6 months it’s important to conduct a fire door inspection. This gives the inspector the opportunity to look for some very important things including labels that are both present and legible, the fact that there aren’t any holes or other types of breaks in the door or its frame, that any glazing or glass are securely intact and fastened, that everything is in proper working order and that there aren’t any missing or broken parts. All of these things are important in keeping you safe.
