Signet rings have great historical significance, but as an element today it rarely gets any recognition. Other than school, sports tournament rings and wedding bands are the only rings that our current society seems to truly value. However, in some circles, the signet ring still has significant importance.
No longer representing the family name, today’s signet ring does symbolize one’s station in life as it indicates a family crest, monograms, intaglio, or a large bevel representing an important part of one’s life.
The ring has taken on new meaning and now when one is worn, they are letting the world know of their own uniquely held view of themselves and their associates who also wear the ring. It indicates membership to an exclusive club or group, sometimes as small as two members. So today, the ring stands for inclusivity only.
